MERRIMACK, N.H. – June 6,2014 – Nanocomp Technologies, an advanced nanotechnology manufacturing company, is holding a kickoff event to celebrate the expansion of its facility, made possible by an 18.5 million dollar contract from the Department of Defense. The company is tripling its manufacturing capacity and planning to add over 70 new jobs – most of them in manufacturing - in the upcoming year. United States Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte, along with New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan, will be present to take part in the celebration and speak about their role in helping facilitate this expansion and its impact on the manufacturing industry in New Hampshire. Additionally, members of the Merrimack Fire and Police Departments will be present along with local tradesmen and about one hundred distinguished guests.
As the only commercial producer of carbon nanotube-based sheets, tapes and yarn, Nanocomp is working closely with the Department of Defense to reduce the weight of body armor while maintaining the level of performance for soldiers and law enforcement. The company’s materials are being used to replace heavy copper and can also be a benefit in many applications across the aviation, defense, automotive, energy and consumer markets.
“This is a great day for our company,” said Peter Antoinette, Nanocomp’s CEO and president. “This celebration is the culmination of successful public and private partnerships that have enabled Nanocomp to be awarded this significant funding through the Defense Production Act Title III program. Our US Senators, as well as the Governor, worked tirelessly on our behalf to make today a reality. Their belief in us, and in the revolutionary materials we produce, materials that will save lives, enhance national security, and also save energy, is the foundation for the jobs we are going to be able to create. Ten years ago we had two employees; today we have seventy six employees – with plans to more than double that number over the next year.”
“Nanocomp’s expansion reinforces that our tax-friendly environment, responsive state government, highly skilled workforce and high quality of life make New Hampshire as attractive a state for business as any in the country and an emerging center for aerospace and defense.” Governor Maggie Hassan said. “Innovative, job-creating businesses like Nanocomp help spur the economic growth that lifts all of our people and supports a strong middle class, and I thank all of the hard-working people at Nanocomp for everything that they do to strengthen national defense, keep our economy moving forward and create jobs.”
“Nanocomp Technologies’ expansion is great news for New Hampshire jobs and our economy,” Senator Shaheen said. “It’s also good news for our soldiers and law enforcement officers who will benefit from the company’s innovations and technological advancements. I want to congratulate everyone at Nanocomp on all their accomplishments and look forward to working with them into the future.”
"Nanocomp is one of New Hampshire's high-tech manufacturing success stories,” said Senator Ayotte. “With this contract, Nanocomp will continue to develop cutting-edge materials that protect our troops and save tax dollars, and remain a major contributor to our state's economy."
